Rss feed

I chose a RSS feed that deals with changes in services to children. I hope to be able to use this feed regularly as a librarian and I can also utilize it as a grad student and a teacher.

ERIC/WORLDCAT COMPETENCY

Competency:World Cat and Eric

My Topic: Tiered reading

*My reason for choosing this specific topic is because I am a first grade teacher and I use the three tiered reading approach with my students. I have received quite a bit of training in this specific approach and I feel like I need to keep learning as much as I can.

my podcast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW19W-B9KvA#
The name of my podcast is

How to Teach Children to Read : Favorite Children's Authors

I chose this podcast because as a teacher and a future librarian, I feel that children will read books that they are interested in and they want to have a choice in what they are reading. This podcast introduces both children and parents to popular children's book authors. I really enjoyed watching it because I like to do different author studies in my own classroom and I feel that it helps the students better connect with the story if they know some information about the author. I located this podcast by searching youtube.com and then searching under children's literature.

Indexing in terms that my family can understand-revised

In response to the weekly readings in our text, I chose to write about indexing. I have gone over this section countless times and this one section seems to be the one that I am having the most difficulty with. So, in terms that are easier to understand.
Information needs to be represented before it can be retrieved. Indexing is a widely adopted method for information representation. It uses terms to represent important facets of the original document.
1. Indexing is done based on how terms are obtained or chosen.
2.There are two types of indexing: derivative indexing and assignment indexing. Derivative indexing, also known as keyword indexing, means that terms are derived from or taken from the document. Assignment indexing means that the terms are assigned to the document.
3.Assignment indexing uses a controlled vocabulary to choose appropriate terms. Derivative indexing or free indexing obtains the terms directly from the the text.
An example would be if someone was trying to find a recipe for pumpkin pie. Derivative indexing would allow the user to use the term pumpkin or certain ingredients to locate a specific recipe. Assignment indexing means that someone could look up types of pies to obtain the recipe of their choice.

the journey

I am very interested in children's literature and I decided that I would like to find a blog site that focused on that. I used googleBlog http://blogsearch.google.com/. I typed in childrens' literature. This blog site was listed and I explored and really enjoyed it. This site was created for adults who enjoy childrens' literature. I really enjoyed the movie trailer of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. My reasoning behind choosing this specific site is because I am a first grade teacher and I am currently in my 18th year of teaching.

Terrible Yellow Eyes

Am I the last one to hear of the blog Terrible Yellow Eyes? Illustrator Cory Godbey says Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak has always been tremendously important to him. He decided to contact many of his favorite artist in hopes to curate a collection of paintings as a tribute to the book and he displays them all on the blog

All I can say is, "Wow!" You have to go straight to the blog to see it for yourself. I want a copy of each and everyone. And many more are still coming! Here are a few of my favorites to prove to you that you need to go straight to the site. Godbey says it's like a visual love letter to the book and I have to agree.
